Indiana county named crisis area for tuberculosis

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has designated Allen County, Indiana, as a crisis area for tuberculosis, the only county in the United States with that designation.

In April, the CDC determined that an original, more aggressive strain of the disease developed in Allen County. While most strains of tuberculosis can be passed only between people who have constant interaction, such as spouses, the new strain can be spread through casual interaction.
