World Bank approves US$5 million loan for Vietnam to fight bird flu

The World Bank has approved a US$5 million loan to help Vietnam in its ongoing efforts to fight bird flu, the bank said.

The emergency credit, approved by the World Bank's board of directors, will help Vietnam prepare for and identify new disease outbreaks, assist the poultry industry in handling the virus, and increase public awareness, the bank said.

Some of the funds will also be distributed to poultry farmers whose stocks were destroyed by bird flu and will help other farmers endure future losses, it said.
