Study shows Corixa's MPL adjuvant protected against uncomplicated malaria

In a proof-of-concept study to be published in the The Lancet, researchers report that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Biologicals' RTS,S/AS02A malaria vaccine candidate containing Corixa's (Nasdaq:CRXA) MPL adjuvant protected a significant percentage of children against uncomplicated malaria, infection, and even severe forms of the disease for at least 6 months.

This largest malaria vaccine efficacy trial ever conducted in Africa also reconfirmed the vaccine's safety in one-to-4 year old children. Further efficacy studies will be needed before consideration for licensure.
