Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease



COPD afflicts three times the number of adults than previously estimated

At least 10% of the world's adults over the age of 40 may have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), according to new figures released on World COPD Day, by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). The new data suggest that the lung disease is more than three times as common as was previously estimated.

The figures being released are preliminary results from two major international studies in Brazil, Chile, China, Mexico, Turkey and Uruguay.
