WHO develops priorities for drug research, including expected flu vaccines

The world is unprepared for an inevitable flu pandemic that could kill tens of millions of people, but profit-driven pharmaceutical companies are putting too little research into the development of vaccines, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. Developing flu vaccines was high on a priority list released by the U.N. agency, which recommended policies to encourage drug production for diseases that have been overlooked because of poor sales potential or because research has been inadequate.
