Man tests positive for bird flu, human-to-human transmission investigated

A man in Vietnam whose brothers contracted bird flu has tested positive for the deadly virus, state-controlled media reported January 24, 2005, as the World Health Organization (WHO) said it was investigating the possibility that one of the siblings passed the disease to another.

But Vietnamese officials said there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission in the cases. Health officials fear the virus could mutate into one that easily spreads among people, causing a global pandemic that could kill millions. There is no evidence of such a mutation, however.
