Thai Cabinet allocates emergency funds to fight bird flu

Thailand's Cabinet on January 25, 2005, approved short term and long term budgets to cope with the threat of bird flu, which health experts are warning could trigger a worldwide influenza pandemic. Concern about the warnings has been reinforced in the past week by a spate of new human deaths from the disease in Vietnam. Twelve people have died in Thailand from the virus since it first emerged early last year. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chaturon Chaisang said the Cabinet, at its weekly meeting on January 25, 2005, approved 500 million baht (US$13 million, EUR 9 million) in emergency funds for this year to be used to prevent and eradicate bird...
