Peripheral arterial disease is underdiagnosed and undertreated

A recent report on the role of antiplatelet therapy in cardiovascular disease focused on peripheral arterial disease. According to the report from the United States, "Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common manifestation of the atherosclerotic disease process, typically affecting vascular beds in the lower extremities. In its most severe form PAD may lead to limb amputation." J.J. Cavendish and colleagues of the U.S. Navy continued, "Patients with PAD are also at increased cross-risk of thrombosis at coronary and cerebrovascular sites.
