Women confused about trends in hormone therapy treatments, online survey shows

In a national survey, 86% of women were unaware that custom-made hormone therapy treatments created in a compounding pharmacy are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The finding came from an online survey conducted by MenopauseRx.com.

Ironically, 75% of those same respondents thought FDA approval was very important when considering a hormone therapy treatment option.

Survey results also showed women are unclear about the difference between bioidentical hormones versus so-called "natural" hormones. Only 38% of women knew the terms bioidentical and natural referred to different types of treatments. Bioidentical hormone therapy...
