Licorice root treatment in medicated disc for canker sores introduced

A study showing the effectiveness of a patented medicating disc using licorice root (glycyrrhiza) in healing and relieving the pain of canker sores was presented at the 2005 Joint Meeting of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Canker sores typically last 7 to 14 days. In this study healing occurred in 3 days or less for 96% of sores treated. The glycyrrhiza extract (GX) was applied through a new oral disc that adheres near the sore and slowly releases the licorice extract as it dissolves.
