A researcher presents data on infectious diseases treated in U.S. emergency departments in 2001 in a recent issue of the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. "Emergency departments (EDs) are an important source of medical care in the United States. Information is limited concerning epidemiologic patterns of ED visits for infectious diseases. Data for 2001 from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS) were analyzed for infectious disease visits.
