A recent review by the Statin Safety Task Force of the National Lipid Association confirmed that statins, a class of drugs widely used for lowering cholesterol, are safe. The Task Force systematically reviewed safety data from published studies, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) records and a 22 million-person managed care database, which included 490,000 patient-years of continuous statin treatment.
