Reversions in 5'-untranslated region of poliovirus after vaccination are analyzed

Researchers report results of an analysis of reversions in the 5'-untranslated region of attenuated poliovirus after sequential administration of inactivated and oral poliovirus vaccines in a recent issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

According to a study from the United States, "Replication of Sabin strains used in oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) in the intestines of vaccine recipients leads to reversions that increase virus neurovirulence.
