According to a study from the United States, "Oral hairy leukoplakia (OHL) is a common oral manifestation of HIV infection. Clinically, these lesions appear as white plaques on the edges of the tongue." "Pathophysiologically, these lesions Occur because of infection of oral epithelium with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
