Reports from University of Edinburgh describe recent advances in interleukin-1

New research, 'Diagnostic importance of pulmonary interleukin-1beta and interleukin-8 in ventilator-associated pneumonia,' is the subject of a report. "Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most commonly fatal nosocomial infection. Clinical diagnosis of VAP remains notoriously inaccurate," scientists writing in the journal Thorax report.

"The hypothesis was tested that significantly augmented inflammatory markers distinguish VAP from conditions closely mimicking VAP.
