Researchers from National Institute of Biology Report Details of New Studies and Findings in the Area of Legionella

2012 JAN 8 -- "Legionella pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease, infects and replicates in macrophages and amoebas. Following internalization, L. pneumophila resides in a vacuole structure called Legionella-containing vacuole (LCV). The LCV escapes from the endocytic maturation process and avoids fusion with the lysosome, a hallmark of Legionella pathogenesis," scientists writing in the journal Cellular Microbiology report.
