Fitch: Pfizer's Ratings Unaffected by generic Norvasc launch

Fitch Ratings does not expect Mylan Laboratories Inc.'s (Mylan) market introduction of amlodipine besylate tablets (generic Norvasc) in the U.S. today to have a material impact of Pfizer's Inc. (NYSE:PFE) (Pfizer) credit profile. Mylan's generic product, which already received full approval from the FDA, has been launched due to a favorable legal outcome for Apotex Inc., effectively invalidating Norvasc's patent protection. The launch triggered the six-month exclusivity period granted to Mylan as the first generic manufacturer to file its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) to the FDA.
