Kentucky hospital drops Methodist from name

A Kentucky hospital has dropped Methodist from its name as part of a settlement that ended a lengthy legal battle with the nation's second-largest Protestant denomination.

Pikeville Methodist Hospital is now Pikeville Medical Center, a name change that will become apparent when new lettering arrives for the front of the expansive building.

The hospital also agreed to pay the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church more than $5 million as part of the settlement that effectively severed all ties between the two.
