"Invasive fungal infection has become a major cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients," scientists in Taiwan explained. "Rapid identification of pathogenic fungi to species level is critical for disease treatment.
In a study conducted by M.C. Hsu and colleagues at the Center for Disease Control in Taipei, a "real-time LightCycler assay aiming at rapid detection and species identification of pathogenic fungi from clinical isolates was developed.
