GR function influences cell proliferation during lobuloalveolar development

Glucocorticoid receptor function doesn't appear to be required for alveolar differentiation and milk production, but study data suggest it has an effect on cell proliferation during lobuloalveolar development.

These findings were reported in the journal Molecular Endocrinology by researchers at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg.

"Glucocorticoids have been shown to influence mammary gland function in vivo and to stimulate milk protein gene expression in vitro," wrote T.M. Wintermantel and colleagues.
