Florida Supreme Court decision leaves little or no redress against U.S. tobacco companies

A decision announced by the Florida Supreme Court effectively leaves 700,000 Florida smokers with little or no redress against U.S. tobacco companies that have profited by selling highly addictive cigarettes, which most smokers begin using before they were old enough to legally purchase the products.

Ironically, this is in spite of the fact that the Court upheld findings about the grave dangers and addictiveness of cigarettes as well as the actions of the tobacco companies in misrepresenting these dangers. The ruling underscores the fact that Big Tobacco will literally be able to litigate to death a smoker's claim for justice.
