53BP1 links DNA damage response to Ig heavy chain class-switch recombination

DNA damage-response activity has been linked to Ig heavy chain class-switch recombination through the 53BP1 protein.

"The mammalian protein 53BP1 is activated in many cell types in response to genotoxic stress, including DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs)," scientists in the United States explained.

In a recent study, J.P. Manis and colleagues at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Boston examined "potential functions for 53BP1 in the specific genomic alterations that occur in B lymphocytes."
