Nociceptin/orphanin FQ blockade provides neuroprotection and symptom relief in rats

Nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) blockade provides neuroprotection and symptomatic relief in a rat model of Parkinson disease. The opioid-like neuropeptide N/OFQ "and its receptor (NOP) are expressed in the substantia nigra (SN), a brain area containing dopamine neurons that degenerate in Parkinson disease," neurologists in Italy explained.
