View of personal socioeconomic status may have an effect on long-term health

How people view their own status in society predicts their health over time better than their real station in life, researchers report in a study of about 5,500 middle-aged British civil servants. Education and income were strongly related to objective socioeconomic status, and the "feeling" of financial security was strongly related to subjective socioeconomic status, in the study in the latest issue of Psychosomatic Medicine.
