Research from Eli Lilly and Company yields new findings on dementia therapy

Researchers detail in "Weight changes during treatment with olanzapine in older adult patients with dementia and behavioral disturbances," new data in dementia. "Treatment-emergent weight gain has been reported in younger patients receiving atypical antipsychotics, but less is known about weight gain in adults aged 65 years and older. This was a post hoc analysis of 1267 patients with dementia and behavioral disturbances treated with olanzapine (1 to 20 mg/d) in clinical trials, most of whom were underweight (body mass index <18.5 kg/m2) or of normal weight (body mass index, 18.5-24.9 kg/m2) at baseline," scientists in the United States report.
