Routine screening for perinatal depression appears to be an acceptable practice to both women and healthcare providers. In a recent article published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, scientists in Australia sought "to assess the acceptability of routine screening for perinatal depression." A. Buist and colleagues of the University of Melbourne wrote, "Postnatal women (n=860) and health professionals (n=916) were surveyed after 3 years of routine perinatal (antenatal and postnatal) use of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).
