Species associated with recurrent episodes tend to be less azole susceptible

Species of Candida associated with recurrent episodes of vulvovaginal candidiasis tend not to be C. albicans and less susceptible to effective treatment by azole drugs, research shows. "There are limited data regarding the antifungal susceptibility of yeast causing vulvovaginal candidiasis, since cultures are rarely performed," wrote Sandra S. Richter and colleagues, University of Iowa.
