ADA commends HHS secretary for commitment to increased funding

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) applauded Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Tommy Thompson for his recent announcement that president Bush's fiscal year 2004 budget will include a minimum increase of $100 million to the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) in the fight to prevent and control chronic disease.

The HHS Budget initiative, "Steps to a Healthier U.S." would fund states and communities in an effort to attack chronic diseases and their risk factors, including diabetes, obesity, and asthma.
