Modest weight loss lowers risks of hypertension and diabetes

A review by a researcher in Spain on the benefits of weight loss concluded that new methods of helping obese patients lose weight and then maintain a healthy weight must be developed, despite the difficulties most patients have maintaining weight loss, because of the risk reductions that result.

"Obesity is associated with type 2 diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia," commented J. Vidal at the Hospital Clinic de Barcelona.
