Herbal antiobesity agent possesses mechanism similar to fluoxetine

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - A new herbal antiobesity preparation (OB-200G) significantly reduced feeding duration in mice in a manner similar to that produced by fluoxetine, according to a report in Methods and Findings in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology.

In mice, the onset of satiety is associated with a certain sequence of behaviors (activity, feeding, grooming, and resting). Gurpreet Kaur and Shrinivas K. Kulkarni at Panjab University in India recorded the duration of these behaviors after treatment with varying doses of the polyherbal OB-200G (0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 g/kg) or fluoxetine (10 mg/kg).
