Two tests better than one for diagnosing diabetes in hypertensives

A stepwise combination test to screen for diabetes in hypertensive patients identified all diabetics and was considerably less expensive than the "gold standard" oral glucose tolerance test, researchers report.

At the University of Vienna, Austria, researchers pitted the stepwise combination fasting plasma (blood) glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin for diabetes screening in hypertensive patients against the "gold standard" oral glucose tolerance test. Their findings were published in the American Journal of Hypertension.
