Adiponectin involved in antidiabetic activities

by Maria G. Essig, MS, ELS, senior medical writer - The two adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2, promote the actions of adenosine monophosphate (AMP) kinase and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha) ligands, according to a report in the journal Nature.

"Adiponectin (also known as 30-kDa adipocyte complement-related protein; Acrp30) is a hormone secreted by adipocytes that acts as an antidiabetic and anti-atherogenic adipokine," stated Toshimasa Yamauchi and collaborators at the University of Tokyo, Kyorin Pharmaceutical, and Keio University in Japan.
