Statin therapy may keep creatine kinase elevated in glycogen storage disease

Statin therapy for hypercholesterolemia may make plasma creatine kinase stay elevated if the patient has a known or unknown glycogen storage disease. According to a study from England, "Two cases of hypercholesterolemic patients are presented, in whom raised plasma creatine kinase was noted during treatment with statins. "The plasma creatine kinase failed to fall following cessation of therapy," wrote J.H. Barth and colleagues.
