British food watchdog says farmed salmon is safe

Britain's official food watchdog says that farmed salmon is safe, despite a scientific study claiming the fish contain worrisome pollutants.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the levels of dioxins and other potentially cancer-causing pollutants found in the salmon were within internationally recognized safety limits, and that the benefits from eating the heart-healthy fish outweighed any possible risks.

A study published in the U.S. journal Science found that salmon farmed in Northern Europe contained the most pollutants, followed by North America and then Chile.
