Physical fitness, nutrition are hot topics for West Virginia coalition

West Virginia health leaders want to coordinate and enhance programs that promote physical fitness and nutrition as part of a statewide coalition to address the rising prevalence of obesity.

"The coalition will provide a process to coordinate a lot of great programs that are already going in the state and help identify gaps in terms of what needs to occur so we can truly reduce obesity," said Helen Matheny, the West Virginia State Medical Association's director of communications and health programs.

Coalition plans are based on recommendations by the Healthy Citizens Focus Team of West Virginia's economic development plan, "Vision Shared."
