California Central Valley's health lagging behind state average

Residents of California's Central Valley face some of the most severe health problems in the state, often with no insurance, and little progress has been made to remedy the situation over the past few years, new research shows.

Hundreds of health professionals and policy makers gathered in Fresno, California, on February 4, 2004, in a day-long conference guided by the findings of "Health in the Heartland: The Crisis Continues," a study funded by the California Endowment in partnership with the Central Valley Health Policy Institute at California State University, Fresno.
