ADA responds to study citing obesity close to being leading cause of death

A new study released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that deaths due to poor diet and physical inactivity rose by 33% over the past decade and may soon overtake tobacco as the leading preventable cause of death.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), suggests that interventions to prevent and increase cessation of smoking, improve diet, and increase physical activity must become much higher priorities in the public health and healthcare systems.
