North Dakota baked goods event gets healthier every year

Every fourth Saturday in March since she can remember, Sandy Klein has been preparing baked goods and delivering them to people who don't have the ability to prepare such foods. Or so she thought.

One year when she dropped off food to two brothers and their elderly father, one of the brothers came running out of the house and gave Klein a batch of chocolate chip cookies they had prepared.

"It was so cute because they were just all grins," Klein said.

Klein is one of hundreds of people in North Dakota who participate each year in Bake and Take Day, a nearly 35-year-old national tradition observed by 4-H clubs, scouting...
