9% of students consume beverages from school vending machines in study

Only 20% of students consume beverages from secondary school vending machines, according to new, independent consumer research data from National Family Opinion WorldGroup's Share of Intake Panel (NFO SIP).

Among students who consumed soft drinks from school vending machines (9% of all students), the average intake of regular carbonated soft drinks was only 12.5 ounces, or slightly more than one 12-ounce can per week.

An assessment of the student soft drink consumption data, prepared by statistician Michael E. Ginevan, PhD, was for the school year 2001-2002.
