Study shows obesity may affect mammography results

According to an article in the May 24 issue of The Archives of Internal Medicine, obese or overweight women are more likely to receive a false-positive mammography results that women of normal weight.

Led by Joann G. Elmore, M.D., M.P.H., of the University of Washington School of Medicine, a team of researchers studied the link between obesity and mammography results. The team analyzed 100,622 screening mammographies on members of a non-profit health plan, and assessed body mass index as well as mammography screening accuracy.
