'Flying eye hospital' brings sight-saving help to Paraguay and other countries

Paraguay is a small country in South America tucked neatly between Bolivia and the giant landmasses of Argentina and Brazil. Much of its blindness problem is preventable, which has attracted the support of ORBIS, one of the most effective humanitarian medical-centric organizations.

ORBIS International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness. It is conducting a 3-week training program of local professionals in Paraguay, who will be instructed in procedures to save the sight of people with treatable conditions such as cataracts, corneal blindness, and diabetic retinopathy, which otherwise would cause blindness.
