ADA encourages members to discuss obesity surgery with appropriate patients

INAMED Health announced that the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has contacted members and urged them to discuss obesity surgery with all of their patients who meet existing U.S. National Institutes of Health treatment criteria as an option to dramatically improve or resolve diabetes and other conditions caused by morbid obesity.

In the communication, the ADA sent a recent peer-reviewed article by Thomas L. O'Connell, MD, of Duke University Medical Center, entitled "An Overview of Obesity and Weight Loss Surgery," to its members that stated that more than 60% of the U.S. population is either overweight or obese.
