Doctor says insurance companies should cover weight-loss programs

A doctor is leading a campaign aimed at requiring insurance companies to fund programs that would help people lose weight with exercise programs and diet counseling. Caitilin Kelly, MD, a Bloomington physician, said such programs would help to hold down health costs related to obesity. She told The Indianapolis Star that she is asking members of the Indiana State Medical Association to join her and urge state lawmakers to require private insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid to pay for such programs. The medical group, which represents more than 8,000 Indiana physicians, met in Indianapolis in early September. ...
