Glucose monitoring company closes $14.8M series C financing round

Glucon, a developer of a continuous, noninvasive, glucose monitoring technology for home and clinical use, announced that Ascend Technology Ventures has invested $1 million in the company.

This concludes the company's C financing round, which now totals $14.8 million.

Glucon's device reads glucose (sugar) levels directly from blood vessels using the photo-acoustic effect and its proprietary imaging technology. It is estimated that by the close of 2010, 24 million in the U.S. and 220 million worldwide will suffer from diabetes. Currently, 16 million Americans are diabetic.
