Pioglitazone increases circulating adipocytokine levels and improves insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetic patients.

According to published research from the United States, "We examined the effect of pioglitazone (PIO) on circulating adipocytokine levels to elucidate the mechanisms by which thiazolidinediones improve insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Twenty-three subjects with T2DM (age 54±2 years, body mass index 29±1 kg/m²) were randomly assigned to receive placebo (n=11) or PIO, 45 mg/d (n=12), for 4 months.
