Pharmaceutical company announces results of heart disease risk study

LipoScience announced the results of a major study confirming that the number of LDL particles (LDL-P) measured by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides better prediction of heart disease risk than levels of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C). In a paper presented at the recent American Heart Association meeting, LDL-P was shown to provide significantly more information about cardiovascular risk in middle-aged men and women followed prospectively over eight years than traditional cholesterol measures.
