 Psidium guajava extract exerts hypoglycemic effect in diabetic rats

A water extract of Psidium guajava leaves was hypoglycemic in diabetic rats.

"A water extract of Psidium guajava leaves was screened for hypoglycemic activity on alloxan-induced diabetic rats," researchers in India report.

"In both acute and sub-acute tests, the water extract, at an oral dose of 250 mg/kg, showed statistically significant hypoglycemic activity," wrote H. M. Mukhtar and colleagues at Hamdard University.

Mukhtar and associates published their study in Pharmazie (Effect of water extract of Psidium guajava leaves on alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Pharmazie, 2004;59(9):734-735).
