Pharma company announces amino acid patent filing

SCOLR Pharma, Inc., (AMEX: DDD - News) announced that the company has filed a provisional patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office utilizing the company's patented amino acid technology for a method to improve the oral delivery and bioavailability of Rosiglitazone.

Rosiglitazone is the active pharmaceutical ingredient used in the prescription drugs Avandia (Rosiglitazone maleate) and Avandamet (Metformin HCl/Rosiglitazone maleate) to treat type II diabetes. In 2003, GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK - News) reported nearly $1.5 billion in global Avandia and Avandamet sales.
