Studies describe new findings in diabetes pathogenesis research

Investigators in the United States have published new diabetes pathogenesis data.

Study 1: Ascorbic acid recycling is impaired by increased glucose metabolism in cultured beta cells.

"Ascorbic acid is necessary for optimal insulin secretion from pancreatic islets. We evaluated ascorbate recycling and whether it is impaired by increased glucose metabolism in the rat beta-cell line INS-1.
