Body size, ethnicity related to menstrual cycle changes in perimenopausal women

An analysis of data from the SWAN study suggests that body size and ethnicity are associated with changes in the menstrual cycle of perimenopausal women.

"The SWAN [Study of Women's Health Across the Nation] is a multiethnic, community-based, longitudinal cohort study of 3,302 women at 7 sites who initially were 42 to 52 years of age. Daily patterns of reproductive hormones have been studied in a subgroup of 848 women. A total of 833 menstrual cycles were evaluated," reported N. Santoro of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and a group of colleagues from an extensive list of institutions.
